All for making 2011 such an AWESOME year thus far!! I am HAPPY & SAD at the same time to let everyone know that with the exception of one more mini session day in December, I am completely booked for this year. the specs of how an image was made....

this one was shot with a Canon 5D Mark II/ ISO 400/ 50mm 1.2 lens/ F1.6/Shutter 1/1000 sec.

We were in the hallway of a church that had HUGE windows ...the groom's side obviously was much more well lit..the bride's side was much darker and closer to another hallway. At first I didn't like that..but then got to thinking I liked the "dramatic" darkness to her side...after all, it is the bride who's appearance is supposed to be top secret. So, this is what I came up with. Oh, and the post processing...I made the image black and white..then threw some softer tones onto it...giving it almost the ole "sepia" look. I gotta say... I am in love with it. Possibly my favorite wedding shot to date. Hope you dig as well!

When it comes down to it......

What is really important in this life? Is it the houses we live in, cars we drive, or clothes we wear? Sometimes I tend to get caught up in these kinds of things. I'm just so thankful that I have people like Andrea to remind me of what really matters.....

You see, Andrea is 28 with a gorgeous family of 5...a wonderful, supportive husband and 3 beautiful kiddos. That's what people see when they look at her. A strong, independent woman ready to take on the world....

What we can't see at first glance is the story. The story that has brought her where she is today. The story of her breast cancer.

At age 26, after just finishing up breast feeding her baby girl, Andrea noticed two marble sized knots on her right breast. Being so young, she thought nothing of it. Later that year she found out she was pregnant again. At her Dr's appointment the lumps were considered worrisome and tested. So in January of 2009, Andrea was told she had breast cancer.

Within 3 weeks, Andrea was off work, and lying on an operating table having both breasts removed while pregnant with their 3rd baby, little Liam. In March, she started chemo and started losing her hair. Within a short time all her hair was gone, but baby Liam was still thriving in the womb. On July 7, 2009, Andrea's water broke and baby Liam was in distress. After 8 long days in NICU, he came home a healthy, striving 7 lb baby boy.

Here is a picture Andrea let me borrow from her hospital stay after having the sweet little man...

Shortly after Liam's first birthday Andrea found out she had another cancerous lump. It was removed. This time radiation was given and she finished that in January of this year. In February, Andrea had her ovaries removed for precaution and is now going through menopause at age 28...

Through all of this, Andrea has remained positive and feels so blessed to have a supportive husband and 3 healthy children. She is a thankful survivor!

I am so thankful to have met Andrea through a mutual friend. She has opened my eyes and reminded me of how precious life is. Tomorrow is not a promise...and I want to live each day with that in mind.

The most important thing to Andrea is to spread the word about breast cancer awareness. No matter what your age...it's so important to do self breast exams and have yearly physicals.

Thank you, Andrea...for spending some time with me, sharing your story, and just reminding us all what truly matters.

To my own little cuties...Parker and Paige!

Sweet Miss Oma...

is 79 years old with a personality like no other. Within minutes of meeting her, it's very apparent what a witty and loving lady she is. Miss Oma is a mother of 8, grandmother of 23, great grandmother of 47, and great great grandmother of 2...

On January 19th of this year Miss Oma was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and given 4 months to live....

She's not letting it get her down. Some of her family told me she says she's ready to meet her a good looking man...and now she goes through 2 cartons of Moon Pie ice cream each week....

She was more than happy to chow down on a carton for me to snap some shots.lol I'm telling you, this lady just melted my heart....

Miss Oma is surrounded by loved ones everyday. There were more people than you can imagine visiting her while I was there. I was only around her for about 30 minutes...but I would be willing to guess she doesn't complain about a thing.....

Generations of love surround her....

Miss Oma will tell you...when it's her time to go, she is ready. She is a sweet and courageous woman. I'm proud to have met her, if only for a brief time...

I just pray when my time on this Earth is almost over...that I will have the same positive outlook and be surrounded by the love that she has in her life.

A few gallons of Moon Pie ice cream won't hurt either.....

Thank you, Miss Oma...for letting me come into your room and do a quick session of you and your family. I hope these will be remembered for years to come. You all are in my thoughts and prayers...and I will never again see a Moon Pie without thinking of SWEET MISS OMA :)

sooo many companies have incentives for "new" customers but nothing for loyal, long term past customers? For instance, right now you can get a supa cool, oh so rad, better than a laptop cell phone for FREE...yes I said FREE from a certain company...yet this SAME phone...for current customers...$299!!! Or...here's another one of my faves...that WONDERFUL cable company that we all know and love...the one that should have a devil on its logo..."new" customers can get cable, internet, and phone all for like $100...call them as a "current customer"...and all you hear is..."sorry, that is for new subscribers"...WHAT??? So....this brings me to my point .....my current/past clients deserve some love. So, to show appreciation for all of you...I'm doing a contest. JUST FOR YOU :)

From now until Friday, May 21st I will be taking submissions from my clients of their FAVORITE pic from any session that they have had with ME. It doesn't matter which picture, it can be of one child, all the kids, the whole family, just your feet, or even that one I shot when you didn't think I was of you rolling your eyes at your husband.... But, only ONE photo can be submitted per family.
Here's the deal though, along with the photo, you must tell WHY it is your favorite pic. Why you would want a 16x20 canvas of it hanging in your living room. Does it make you smile? Does it give you that warm and fuzzy feeling like when you take a sip of a freshly opened diet coke (oh wait, that's just me)...but you get the point. Right?

are an amazing family. So happy and just fun to be around. I enjoyed my time spent with them this past week to do their family photos....

Karma and Curtis have been married almost 11 years. They were best friends for four years when Curtis finally told Karma he had feelings for her...they were engaged a week later. Talk about a sweet story! But what you don't know about them is that Curtis was diagnosed with cancer 11 months after they were married. They have three handsome sons...Parker (9), Preston (7), and Pierce (3). They also have a wonderful Mom/Mom in law, Linda who has stood by them through all of this. I hope all of you will take time to visit their family's blog over at The McNew's Story, learn more about their family's story, and pray for them. I truly enjoyed the hour I had with them. They had me laughing the entire time. They are perfect examples of living for Him and knowing that He is in charge of it all....

Thank you Curtis, Karma, Linda, Parker, Preston, and Pierce... for blessing me with the oportunity to meet and photograph your beautiful family...you all will be in my prayers always.

About 5 years ago....

right after having my oldest daughter Faith, I received a phone call from my friend Julie. She knew of a family whose father had cancer and was only expected to live a few more weeks. This was early December, and they weren't sure he would make it until Christmas. Her request from me was simple. To take one last family photo of them. It was a father, mother and two small children. So, of course, we set a date, and I went out with Julie and did their family photos. The dad died about 2 weeks later. "You have no idea how much these mean to me," the mother said as I was walking out of their home. What she didn't realize was how much of an impact they had on my life.

Now, almost five years later...I ask myself, why did I stop there? Ever since that year, I've thought about that family... wondering how the kids and mom were coping, and how their lives had changed since his death. I thought about how blessed I was...to get to do that for them. But still, even with that little voice in my head, I just went on with my life...and while my photography business has grown tremendously, there is still more I want to do.... Photography is a gift that He gave me. Anyone that knows me knows how much I love it. So, that is why today...that little voice in my head...the one telling me there is more to this than just an extra income for our family...is going to be heard.

A program to celebrate the lives and LOVE of families facing life threatening illnesses through photography.

Free of Charge.

Everyone's life is a celebration. Whether they are 6 months old, or 60 years old. Once years pass and memories fade, photographs can keep telling stories for generations to come. That's what this is all about.

With their permission, I will be sharing each family with you here on my blog....their stories, their lives, their love and their prayer requests.....giving updates on what is going on with them and how they are coping. This Blessed Nest ...I was so excited when she said that she could drive all the way out here to have some pictures taken. And she is just as GREAT in person! Welcome! I am SO very happy to FINALLY get to publish my new photography blog that has been in the making for a few weeks now. It still has some minor issues we are working on..but for the most part it's up and running! I can't think of a better way to start out my new blog than with this precious little man. He won my heart within the first 5 minutes of seeing him! ENJOY!

All senior session photos are edited approx. 3-5 hours. This includes: color balancing, some blemish removal and various other enhancements...basically I stare at my monitor until my eyes are ready to bleed and you look like you're straight out of a magazine. Not that you don't already :)

~Unlimited clothing changes as long as time permits

EXTRA INFORMATION....

-All sessions are edited prior to receiving your disk. This includes color balancing, some light blemish removal and various enhancements. Any "extra" touch ups such as tan lines, extreme acne, or other major touch ups are available upon request for an extra fee.

-Image disks are available approx. 2-3 weeks after session. Any image disk needed sooner than that are available for an additional $25 fee.

-I am an "on location" photographer and use mostly natural light for my sessions. If weather does not permit, your session will be rescheduled for a day and time convenient for both.

-All session prices are for the Knoxville area only. Other area sessions are possible for an additional travel fee of $25 assuming it is within reasonable range. If travel is needed outside of our area, a travel fee will be decided and agreed upon by both of us :)
-I ask that everyone bring a self addressed/stamped envelope with them for disk to be mailed in. The envelope size should be at least 5x7 and postage needs to be at least .62 cents.

HELP WITH YOUR DECISIONS.....

I get asked the question a lot "What should we wear?"...well my answer to that is simple. Whatever you like!

I am not a photographer that will say no to certain colors (like all white etc)...I think whatever your style is...it should be shown in your photographs. While certain things DO look better than others...like not having too many different patterns etc...ANYTHING is workable. So if you want stripes/polka dots and hearts..I say go for it! It is my job to make it work. You just need to show up...preferably with 8 hours of sleep and a smile :)
